Start here

Tell us what it's doing.

You don't need to know the part name. Find the sentence that sounds like your morning and we'll tell you what's probably going on.

It won't budge, and I heard a bang last night.

That bang was a torsion spring letting go — it's the loudest thing a garage does. The door is now dead weight. Don't force the opener; you'll strip the gear next.

Spring replacement · same day
It goes up crooked, or stops halfway.

Usually a lift cable that jumped the drum, a bent track, or a seized roller. Left alone it drags the door out of square and starts bending panels.

Cable, track & roller repair
It closes, then pops right back open.

Nine times out of ten it's the two safety sensors near the floor — knocked out of alignment by a bike or a snow shovel. Sometimes it's a close-limit setting on the opener.

Sensor alignment · opener tuning
It sounds like it's coming apart.

Grinding and screeching is dry rollers, loose hinges, or worn end bearings. This is a tune-up, not a replacement — and catching it here is what keeps it from becoming one.

Maintenance & tune-up
The remote does nothing. Neither does the wall button.

If the wall button is out too, it isn't the remote battery. We look at the logic board, the drive gear, and the outlet before we ever quote you a new opener.

Opener diagnosis & repair
Somebody backed into it. The bottom is rotted out.

Dented steel and swollen wood bottoms don't get better. We'll tell you honestly whether a section swap will hold or whether you're better off with a new door.

New door installation

What we do

Four things, done properly.

01

Garage door repair

The everyday fix. We diagnose on site, quote before we touch anything, and carry the common parts so you're not waiting on a second visit.

  • Cables off the drum
  • Bent or loose track
  • Rollers, hinges, bearings
  • Off-track doors reset
02

Spring replacement

The most common call we get, and the one job you should never DIY — a wound torsion spring holds enough energy to break a wrist.

  • Torsion & extension springs
  • Replaced as a matched pair
  • Correctly cycled and balanced
  • Same-day in most of the city
03

Openers & remotes

Repair first, replace second. If it's a $40 gear kit we'll say so. If the unit is thirty years old and parts are gone, we'll say that too.

  • Chain, belt & wall-mount units
  • Safety sensor alignment
  • Keypads and remotes paired
  • Phone-app openers installed
04

New door installation

Steel, insulated, or carriage-style. We measure the opening you actually have — not the one the catalog assumes — and haul the old door away.

  • Free on-site estimate
  • Insulated doors for detached garages
  • Custom sizing for old openings
  • Old door removed and recycled

The middle option

Refacing: keep the door, change the face.

Plenty of Chicago garage doors are mechanically fine and just look beat. Refacing swaps the visible face — overlay panels, trim, glass and hardware — onto the door you already have, for well under the cost of a full replacement.

  • New face, same working door Overlay panels or replacement sections go on over sound structure. Your springs, track, rollers and opener stay put.
  • Carriage looks without carriage prices Cross-buck overlays, strap hinges and handles turn a plain flat door into something that suits a bungalow or a two-flat.
  • Glass added or closed up Put a row of lites across the top for daylight, or panel over old glass if the alley side makes you uneasy about it.
  • Trim, seal and jamb refreshed New bottom seal, new weatherstrip, repainted jamb and stop. That's the part road salt destroys first.
  • One day, no re-measure Nothing gets ordered to a custom opening, so refacing skips the lead time a new door needs on an out-of-square garage.

When we'll tell you not to. If the sections are rotted through, the door is bent, the opening has dropped out of square, or you want real insulation for a heated garage — refacing is money spent twice. We'll say so on the estimate and quote you the replacement instead.

Replacement

Drag it. That's the difference.

Forty years of alley weather on the left. An insulated steel door, new track and new hardware on the right — a one-day job.

Ask about financing

Financing provided by third-party lenders. Subject to credit approval. Promotional terms, minimum purchase and repayment period vary by plan — ask us for the current offer and full terms before you apply.

Why it matters who you call

Chicago garages are their own animal.

A national dispatch service sends whoever is closest. Here's what they don't account for.

The alley

Most doors here don't face the street

Detached garage, off the alley, behind the gangway. We work out of the alley all day — narrow approaches, blocked access, a neighbor's car parked in the turn. It's normal to us, not a surprise fee.

January

Cold is spring season

Steel gets brittle and old grease turns to glue. The morning after a hard freeze is when torsion springs let go across the whole city. We stock the standard Chicago sizes on the truck for exactly that week.

The housing stock

Bungalows and two-flats weren't built to a catalog

Hundred-year-old garages settle. Openings go out of square, headroom runs short, frames are true lumber. We measure for what's there instead of forcing a standard door and calling the gap trim.

Salt & grit

The bottom four inches take the beating

Road salt and alley slush wick straight up a wood door and rust out steel bottom sections and rollers. We check the bottom seal and the low hardware on every call, because that's where Chicago doors die first.

What neighbors say.

Spring snapped on the coldest morning of the year with my car trapped inside. Called at 8, they were in the alley by noon, done in under an hour. Quoted the price up front and that was the price.

— Maria R. · Portage Park

Two other companies told me I needed a whole new opener. These guys replaced a gear and a sensor for a fraction of it. Appreciated being told the truth instead of being sold something.

— Devon W. · Beverly

Our 1920s garage opening is nowhere near square. They measured it properly, ordered the right door, and the install crew left the alley cleaner than they found it. New door looks great from the street too.

Before you call

Straight answers.

Can you really come out today?

Most days, yes — that's the whole point of how we run the schedule. Call early and you'll usually get a same-day window. After a hard freeze or a big storm the whole city calls at once, so we book out a day or two; we'll tell you honestly which one you're getting when you call.

What does a broken spring cost to fix?

It depends on the door's weight and how many springs it takes, so we quote on site before any work starts — no diagnostic surprise at the end. If you want a ballpark over the phone, tell us the door size and whether it's wood or steel and we'll get you close.

One spring broke. Do I have to replace both?

If you have two, we strongly recommend it. They're installed as a matched pair and wear at the same rate, so the second one is typically weeks or months behind the first. Replacing both once costs less than paying for two separate service calls.

Can I just fix the spring myself?

Please don't. A wound torsion spring stores enough energy to break bones, and the winding bars have to be handled in a specific order. This is the one garage repair where the hospital bill genuinely outweighs the service call.

Can I keep my opener if I get a new door?

Often, yes — if the unit is healthy and rated for the new door's weight. Insulated doors are heavier than the single-skin steel they're replacing, so we check the opener's horsepower before we reuse it rather than after it burns out.

Do you offer financing?

Yes — approved applicants can start with nothing down and pay over the promotional period with no interest, so the total stays the same as paying cash. It covers repairs as well as new doors, which matters when a spring goes at the wrong time of the month. Ask us for the current plans and full terms when we quote you.

What's the difference between refacing and replacing?

Refacing keeps your existing door and hardware and changes the visible face — overlay panels, trim, glass, handles and hinges. It's the right call when the door works fine and just looks tired. Replacement is the call when sections are rotted or bent, the opening has gone out of square, or you want real insulation. We'll tell you which one you're actually looking at before we quote either.

How long does a new door installation take?

A standard single or double door is a half-day job start to finish, including hauling the old one away. Custom sizing for an out-of-square opening adds lead time on the order but not on the install day.

Do you work on commercial and multi-unit buildings?

Yes — condo and apartment garages, small warehouse and roll-up doors, and property-management accounts. Call and describe the setup and we'll tell you whether it's in our lane.
